The Age of Earthquakes

2017-12-17: Douglas Coupland and Shumon Basar chat to Jarvis about their book The Age of Earthquakes, co-authored with art curator Hans Ulrich Obrist and graphic designer Wayne Daly. 50 years after The Medium is the Massage, Marshall McLuhan's groundbreaking book on the influence of technology on culture, The Age of Earthquakes extends the analysis to a post-internet society. Jarvis also shares some facts about the winter Roman festival of Saturnalia and its parallels with Christmas; and asks for unconventional songs that get us in the festive mood. Meditating Upon the KLF

2017-12-10: In August 2017, electro pioneers The KLF reunited to stage a festival in Liverpool. Jarvis performed there and shares some of his roving reporter-style recordings. Plus, today there are plans for a nationwide mass meditation session. Jarvis explains the concept and encourages us to practise meditating along to some calming music. Miranda July

2017-12-03: As part of BBC 6 Music's Art Is Everywhere season, Jarvis presents an interview he did earlier in 2017 with artist Miranda July. Miranda and Artangel created the UK's first interfaith charity shop, a pop-up in a famous London department store. She talks about the thinking behind the project, how it played out in practice and the way that shoppers have taken it to their hearts.
