We start with the theory that Valentine's was fixed at 14 February to obscure the pagan fertility festival of Lupercalia - the day's first association with romantic love was made by Chaucer. The first half of the show investigates the tender side of love, with romantic stories from listeners. Jonathan Coe reads his story 9th and 13th, a cautionary tale about seizing love while you get the chance. The second half of the show features a sensuous megamix, with passionate spoken word by Anthony Newley, McGough and McGear, and Dirk Bogarde. We also celebrate Chinese New Year.
