2016-01-17: In a show recorded ad hoc in his spare room in Paris, Jarvis presents his personal celebration of the life and times of David Bowie, who died on 10th January 2016. (Full description under the cut...)
He begins by replaying the intro to an episode from 2013, when Bowie suddenly released a single after an extended break from music. We hear clips of Bowie talking about: himself as a storyteller; personality quirks and 'insanity'; how he approached acting in The Man Who Fell to Earth; and who the real Jean Genie was. Jarvis remembers his experiences on the day he heard that Bowie had died; considers how with Lazarus Bowie managed to make even his own passing into a work of art; and shares a joyous memory of DJing in a tent at Glastonbury shaking to the strains of Jean Genie. In the middle hour, there's another chance to hear the 2012 interview with choreographer Michael Clark, who created a dance show inspired by Bowie's music, and it includes an extra section of the interview never before broadcast. There is a clip of Ken Pitt revealing how Davie Jones chose his stage name; an exploration of Bowie cover versions; and we hear how Bowie reacted when his hero Scott Walker recorded a 50th birthday message for him. Finally, there's an enlightening excerpt of Bowie's 1999 speech at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, in which he addresses students on the subject of creativity and his efforts to become a true artist.
